- ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪In August of 2005 I had a accident that tore the ligament connecting my thumb to my hand, although that was not apparent at first. I could not pick up a glass of water, but there were other movements of the hand that I could do which made it hard to decide how to care for it. Dr Lower declined to do an MRI of my hand, instead opted to put it in a cast. The fact that my hand was neglected for such a long time allowed the torn ligament to shrivel up and became useless. I eventually insisted that Dr. Lower refer me to a hand specialist, although by this time it was late December. I am grateful that Dr. Quitkin of Vienna, Virgina, was able to repair my hand by harvesting a residual ligament in the wrist and replacing the damaged and torn ligament. I now have most of the range of motion back in my hand. Although if it had been taken care of immediately, I believe I would have had a full recovery. It took Dr. Lower 4 months to take any real action, but it is by the hand of Dr. Quitkin that I came out of this with a hand that works properly.
